Benue PDP heads for apex court, vows to reclaim mandate.

The Benue State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made a commitment to exhaust all legal avenues in its quest to regain the governorship of the state, which it believes is rightfully its. The Appeal Court, in a session held in Abuja, dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Engr Titus Uba, and upheld the tribunal’s verdict confirming the victory of Gov Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the March 18 election.
Following this development, the party’s spokesperson, Mr Bemgba Iortyom, announced in a statement that the party will proceed to challenge the Appeal Court’s ruling at the Supreme Court, affirming Engr Uba’s victory in the last election. He emphasized the party’s belief in the democratic process and its commitment to upholding electoral laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Mr. Iortyom also highlighted the party’s determination to consult its legal team to chart the best course of action in the subsequent stages of the litigation process. He urged members and supporters to remain steadfast in their confidence that justice will prevail in Engr. Titus Uba’s petition.
The PDP underlines the significance of pursuing legal recourse in cases where electoral processes have been violated, citing the alleged malpractices by the APC in the 2023 Governorship Election. The party asserts its conviction that democracy is best upheld and the integrity of the voters’ mandate is safeguarded through the pursuit of legal remedies.
