The victims were transporting goods from Zongoru Community of Bassa Ward to Gijiwa for the Friday market in Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro LGA, when the boat capsized. Out of the 34 people on board, 10 lost their lives, while around 22 were rescued by local divers.
The deceased individuals were identified as Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Bubakar Sadiq, Na’ima Ibrahim, Amina, Safaratu Ibrahim, Sadiq Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu. Garba mentioned that two of the deceased individuals have yet to be identified and all of them were from Zangoro.
He also disclosed that there were 24 adult males and females, as well as 10 male and female children on the boat when the tragedy occurred.
