Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of BUA Group, handed over a N1bn International Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to the University of Maiduguri. The centre was constructed by his personal foundation, Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa.

The handing over took place at the 24th Combined Convocation of the university, where Rabiu was also awarded an honorary degree for his significant contributions to national development, education, and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

The event, graced by the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, saw Rabiu emphasizing the centre’s role beyond a physical structure, envisioning it as an innovative hub of ideas, creativity, and practical entrepreneurship.

Rabiu expressed that the ASR International Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was driven by his deep belief in the transformative power of education and entrepreneurship, demonstrated by his 1 billion Naira investment in the centre through ASR Africa.

Abdul Samad Rabiu stated, “In a world where economies are rapidly evolving and Nigeria strides towards renewed hope, centres like this are vital for development. They are the platforms for nurturing our future leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. We must not just learn; we must act.”

Dr. Ubon Udoh, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, highlighted the project’s significance, emphasizing its potential to spur economic and social growth, offer a global platform for innovative expression, and foster partnerships with leading international educational and innovation institutions.

The event also saw the presence of dignitaries such as the Governor of Borno State Babagana Umara Zulum and traditional rulers.

The new centre comprises administrative offices, dynamic workstations, creative conceptual hubs, a cafeteria, an extensive library, and an exhibition hall, along with a 150-seater hall designed for high-profile presentations and academic conferences.

Established in 2021, ASR Africa aims to provide sustainable, impact-based, homegrown solutions to developmental issues affecting Health, Education, and Social Development within Africa.
