The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Ebonyi State during the 2023 general election, Splendour Oko Eze, has disowned Prince Aja Nwabueze Igwe, who claims to be the deputy governorship candidate of the party.

Recent reports indicate that Prince Aja Nwabueze Igwe, a former commissioner in Ebonyi State, stated in a press release that he was the deputy governorship candidate for the Labour Party in the last general election.

In the same statement, Igwe announced his resignation from the Labour Party and his intentions to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Igwe claimed that his decision was made after consulting with key stakeholders, political associates, family, and supporters.

In a swift response, Eze, who was recognized by the Supreme Court of Nigeria as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, stated that Prince Aja Nwabueze Igwe was not a member of the party in the state.

Eze issued a statement in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, disowning Nwabueze Igwe and urging the general public and party members in the state to ignore his claims of being the former deputy governorship candidate.

Eze emphasized, “Nwabueze, who presents himself as the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State during the 2023 Gubernatorial election, is nothing but false.”

“He was never a member of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State and therefore cannot be my deputy in the election. My deputy was Mr. Sylvester Nwankwo. The general public should completely reject Mr. Igwe A. Nwabueze’s claims as they are completely false.”
