NLC and TUC Report Uzodinma’s Actions to Tinubu Regarding Ajaero’s Arrest in Owerri

President Bola Tinubu has been urged by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Council (TUC) to intervene and call Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to order.
This demand comes in response to the violent incident that occurred on Wednesday involving members of the workers’ unions in the state.
Heavily armed security operatives apprehended NLC President Joe Ajaero at the Congress’s Imo State Council Secretariat in Owerri, according to reports.
In a joint statement signed by Emmanuel Ugboaja and Nuhu Toro, the NLC and TUC condemned the actions of the Imo State Government.
The labor groups expressed their concern that Uzodinma has turned the state into a breeding ground for criminals and violence.
“Hope Uzodimma must be called to order by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to prevent the transformation of the state into a breeding ground for criminals and violence,” the statement said.
Consequently, the unions declared that they will continue their efforts until the government addresses the workers’ demands.
“We will persist in our engagement as trade unions until the government listens to the workers’ demands.
“The Governor should not think that today’s violence will deter our resolve and determination to protect the workers of Imo State.
“Instead, it has spurred us to organize even more effectively so that we can engage him,” they added.
The unions found Ajaero’s arrest and detention to be unacceptable.
However, the Imo State Police Command has denied reports of Ajaero’s arrest by its operatives.
