Ex-NNPP National Chairman Alkali and Kaduna Guber Candidate Hunkuyi Join APC

In a significant political development, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the former national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Senator Sulaiman Othman Hunkuyi, who was the NNPP’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election in Kaduna State, have both defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection to the APC was formally acknowledged on Tuesday by the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In addition to Alkali and Hunkuyi, 23 others from NNPP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the former national legal adviser of NNPP, Prof. Bem Angwe, have also joined the APC.
Explaining their decision, Alkali stated that their move to APC was not influenced by the fact that it is the ruling party, but rather because they believe it is the most effective platform for political progress.
He said, “The exciting news we are bringing to the APC today is that we stand here representing the multitude of hundreds of thousands of our supporters, friends, associates, and well-wishers within the NNPP and PDP nationwide, who have been eagerly awaiting this historic day.”
Responding to the development, Ganduje claimed that NNPP had been infiltrated and corrupted by an association called Kwankwassiya.
The national chairman of the APC promised that the defectors would be treated fairly and included in the party’s plans and activities.
