The Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration in Rivers State has refuted claims that the proposed multi-billion naira Ring Road project has been suspended. Fubara had previously signed the contract for the construction of the road, which is expected to span six local government areas of the state.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joe Johnson, 77% of the total project cost has already been paid. Johnson emphasized that the Ring Road is a crucial initiative aimed at promoting the state’s development and enhancing its economy.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Johnson stated, “The Rivers State Government has been made aware of circulating news that the flagship project of Gov Siminalayi Fubara, the 50.15km Dual Carriage Ring Road, has been suspended. We want to inform the people of Rivers State and the public in general to disregard such false information.

“This project is instrumental in advancing our state and improving our dear state’s economy, therefore, nothing can impede its progress at this stage.

“For clarity, 77% of the contract sum has already been paid, and the construction company is making every effort to complete the job within the agreed timeline.

“We urge information and news handlers to always verify their stories before disseminating them to the public.”
