Nasarawa boat accident claims 12 lives

Twelve individuals are believed to have tragically lost their lives, while seven others have been successfully rescued following a boat capsizing incident on the Kogi Kungra Kamfani river in Arikiya, located within the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa state. The distressing occurrence took place on Wednesday.
The revelation emerged from an emergency assembly convened in Lafia on Thursday, where Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, conveyed the somber news. During the session, Speaker Abdullahi extended his heartfelt condolences to both the state government and the Lafia Local Government Area, acknowledging the severity of the incident.
In a compassionate gesture towards the grieving families who lost their beloved relatives, he expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. “The loss of 12 lives, encompassing both men and women, in a distressing boat mishap in Arikiya within the Lafia LGA, is an incredibly sorrowful occurrence,” lamented the Speaker.
“19 people were on board, 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident.”
The state assembly urged the families, Lafia LGA and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.
“On behalf of myself, Honourable members and the staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA and the state government over their deaths in the boat mishap
“We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest,” he added.
